Our "Theology of the Hammer" is everyone using a
hammer to manifest God's love.
When swinging a hammer, or a paint brush, it doesn't make any
difference whether we are Democrat of Republican; Methodist, Presbyterian,
Episcopalian, Catholic, Lutheran, Baptist, or any other denomination;
black, white, red, or yellow; we all want to eliminate substandard
housing and living.
We dedicated Houses 10, 11, and 12, as our participation in the
2005 Jimmy Carter Work Project here in Michigan. This made four
houses that Habitat for Humanity HiawathaLand dedicated by the
grace of God, within eleven months. We want to thank our community,
our High School Building Trades Classes, and the RV Care-A-Vanners
who came to assist us and show their "Faith in Action".
Since the summer of 2005 we have dedicated House 13. House 14
was the High School Building Trades Class of 2005/2006 Project
and was dedicated Sunday, May 07, 2006.
Habitat for Humanity HiawathaLand has been awarded a Capacity
Building Grant to take us to the home Builder Level, which is
building 5 to 6 houses per year. We are doing this by merging
the Habitat affiliates in Luce, western Mackinac, and Schoolcraft
Counties and then expanding our geographical service area to also
include Alger County.
As Jesus said when he commissioned the Seventy-Two, “The
harvest is plentiful, ….”
We have been blessed with many workers.
We would like to include one or two of you on our Habitat Board
of Directors so as to represent your area. With transitioning
to the Home Builder Level, our Board of Directors is transforming
from a working board to a governing board. Of course, if you wish
to work in addition to governing, we most welcome all services.
Please contact Jim Troyer (906-341-5007) our Board President,
Ray Blount (906-450-0363) our Executive Director, or Dave Olson
(906-387-3673) our Board Vice President if you may be interested
in reflecting Christ’s love by serving on the new Habitat
for Humanity HiawathaLand Board of Directors.
